“We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.” Maya Angelou
Transformation as a biological imperative…
The butterfly is a symbol of transformation, but a transformation not easily won or achieved. The caterpillar doesn’t have a choice. It is programmed to break free of its cocoon. Its transition is likely difficult and painful, yet it must happen or it will die.
We too are called to the transformative process. There is something in us that yearns for it. We sense that there is something more. Something we were called to do or to be. A land imagined, but never visited.
Transformation as a heart imperative…
While transformation for us isn’t a biological imperative like it is for the caterpillar, it is a heart-imperative – if we stop long enough to listen to our hearts and to follow its leadings. We transform or we stagnate. And what is worse than a life of unfulfilled promise — a life not lived to the full?
